SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Borders of Fairyland

Even on the borders of Fairyland magic is strong, and strange things can happen--especially to the unwary.

I like that painting. The perspective is interesting, the wood looks very friendly with all those different colours, the dress is nice and there´s a lot of detail in it.
What does the scene show? I guess the girl in the front is hided behind that tree (though it looks like she´s giving it a hug =) ) and watching the guy taking a bath. The gray horse seems a bit strange... maybe because its neck is to short.

:-) Jessica Menn replies: "The scene shows exactly what it shows--a girl watching a guy take a bath. You can read the description and make further decisions about what's going on. The girl isn't hugging the tree; she's pressing her hands against it (both she and the tree are on an incline; therefore, she'd need to push herself back to be able to see the guy properly [but, I don't know how easy that is to tell, and it really doesn't matter]). As to the horse, there are, no doubt many things wrong with it directly related to the fact I couldn't find a picture of a horse at that angle. (As a matter of fact, I painted it gray specifically so I could turn it into a donkey if it didn't look good as a horse.) I do not, however, think there's a lot wrong with the neck. It might need more shading and highlighting to make it more clear, but, because of the angle it's at and the position of the horse, the neck is partly blocked by the head, making it look shorter than it would be if you were looking straight on at it from the side. :21hrugs:: But I could be wrong. I worked on the painting so much everything all blurs together in my eyes.I'm glad you like it though--or at least parts of it 2"

Ooh, ooh, ooh! Loooovely foliage! You must be a very patient person, I can't imagine how much time you've spent on this, but the effect is marvellous. The pic has a great atmosphere - o hot, sunny day in a dreamy forest... I like the perspective, too, it seems to me that at least this part of the forest is on a slope, am I right?

1 Jessica Menn replies: "I don't remember it taking a long time to paint. I worked on it off and on over a few weeks. Plus, the actual painting is pretty small--only 12"x16". Yes, part of the forest is on a slope--pretty much everything to the right side of the picture; I think you can see the dividing line."

Oh, I also really like how ye did the water and the rocks. Very cool. The horse looks fine to me. I agree with ye Josh that since the horse has it's head half way down, ye wouldn't be able to see it all. It's an all round nice pic.

Oooo. Nice new pic. I like it. Very cool colours and such like. I enjoy the enviting atmosphere. She also has a nice dress. Keep it up.

Since you commented on mine, I thought I'd return the favor.
I like this painting. you've got an interesting perspective going on and a nice variety of greens, that look natural.
