SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Weaver

This is a painting of what writing feels like to me.

Writing is like weaving...only without a loom--without even a pattern. All you have are many different coloured strings attached to your fingers, and it's up to you to discard the ones you don't need, untangle the ones you decide to keep and somehow, although even you can't quite figure out how you're doing it, weave a tapestry--or at least a small throw rug.

I think it's terrible.

Kidding 2 I usually don't get into art but this is really, really good. I'm a writer myself, but I compare my writing more to painting, since it's something I'm not good and and stray away from. It's cool to see this though, writing from the view of another writer.

Good job!

I really like the execution of the weaving and the bird emerging from it. Terrific composition and use of light.

It feels like she (or should I say you?) can see right through the screen!

That's a really great idea. I know just how she feels, being a writer myself. Great work! I especially love how you did her hands--the pose looks very natural.

Out of the pieces of your gallery I think I like this one the most. I like the feel of mystery and controll in the weaver's face and how the bird suddenly comes alive out of the tapestry. The lightning is also great, the warm and cold tones are really at war here fighting for space and attention. The only thing I'd like to question is the left (viewer's left) hand. The anatomy and angle feels strange somehow. It could be the pinky finger hiding behind all of the other fingers, but still...
All in all, a beautiful piece that certainly deserve the attention it's got so far.

What is this? Computer generated? Awesome!!!

:-) Jessica Menn replies: "I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "computer generated". I painted it in Painter Classic. This was actually the first picture I ever painted on the computer, so naturally I find a lot of faults in it. But I'm glad you like it 2 Maybe I'll go back one day and paint a new version."
