| 19 Feb 2004 | Meaghan Beaton | *first comment funky chicken*wikkid cool concept. One thing is that her ear should be a bit lower on her face...the corner of her eye should line up with where your ear connects with your head.other than that, like I say, really cool Jenni Powner replies: " You know, I never even noticed that til you mentioned it *slaps forehead* thankyou very much! The ear does look a little wrong ) I'm not sure though, as I've always been told that the top of the ear should be in line with the eye - I'm taking it that that was your meaning lol (you'll have to excuse me, it's very late in the day for my poor Biology to be coming into use)constructive criticism is always welcome for my pictures. The other thing I dont like is the nose - you shouldnt be able to see the nostril so much on the side turned away. " | |
| 5 Aug 2004 | Rachel E. Greene | actually this picture only has a few flaws that really would'nt take much to fix, the ear is fine, it looks wrong only because her forehead is far too short, look at it this way, your face only takes up 1/3 of your head (or thereabouts) the rest is either forehead or hair and stuff, pull up that forehead! (jk) secondly her lips are crooked when you try to consider the angle of her face, you've pulled the left side a bit far over. I know i'm being a critic, it's just thet your artwork has potential, (in fact it looks eerily like my own a couple years ago... not that that means much considering my work...) and i think you could really do a lot with your talent. Jenni Powner replies: "Hi Rachel! Thankyou for all your comments here in my little gallery - I unfortunately have to bow my head in shame and say that my shortforeheaditis does indeed still rear it's ugly head at regular intervals, but luckily (especially since reading your post) I do often manage to adjust the eye level before things become too devastating - I do, and probably always will, blame this on my awful ignorance of biology and proportions (although, as an art student, i am having to brush up on my proportions an awful lot, thankfully!) Thankyou for being one of those wonderful finds on Elfwood - someone who is objective of pieces, but nice about criticism ) it means a lot! The lips problem, I am currently working on too - I bought a book on portraits a couple of months ago and it has some techniques in there that I'm trying out ) Thankyou again!" | |
