SciFi and Fantasy Art: DM: Farran ('02)

Another sketch of the characters from a role playing game I'm in.

Farran

Farran is a half kelpie warhorse belonging to one of the knights of the party. He's best known for his bad temper.

The player did base Farran on the warhorse from David Edding's Elenium and Tamuli of the same name.

I love David Eddings' books. That is SO Faran! I also must (once again) compliment you on that perspective. It's a great pic. Wonderful shading, too. He looks like he'd bite anybody Sparhawk tells him to. Or doesn't tell him to! ^_^

U kno i can actually see the kelpie in him! He has that wild and sort of other worldly look to him. U should be proud of him.

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Thank you very much. I'm glad the kelpie part came across. "

YEAAAAAAAAH love Farran! favorite of David Eddings -he is such a character in his own right! wow just wow! this is so cool. great perspective, and i'm a horse rider and this has totally captured an amazing expression. i just wouldnt want to be the person standing about a meter to the left 2 he he. and he is such a cutie! this is fab!

22 Jennie Seay replies: "I think he'd object to being called a "cutie". When I imagine Farran, this is exactly the view that I would not want to have . . . "

*LOL* Love the expression. "You come one step closer and I'll bite your head off..." *giggles* And I just ADORE the heavyness. There are too many light and fairy-like horses here in the 'Woods, me thinks. It's refreshing to see a working horses tummy and rear. Muscles, muscles! *grin*

Ha! I love the horse! You sketched it so that its personality is easily recognized, at least to me. As a horse owner I have met horses somewhat similar to this one, and I think you portrayed it beautifully. Keep up the good work!!!

The only issue i have with this picture is that the neck does not seem to be proportioned correctly with teh body it's too short and too thin for a draft type but way better then what i can do so congrats.. oh and by the way with the attitude.. yea I've had horses since i was 9 and i'm 21 now... i've had a horse with much the same attitude as farran*spelling* determination and stubborness is a must for those types

As the player, I love this picture. It is truly Farran as played in the game (where, yes, he's a lot nastier than Sparhawk's "Faran").
The perspective is perfect, actually. I have horses and take lots of pictures. The rear end shot is a common one to show muscling and from this height, the neck always looks short, even when it isn't. Furthermore, on a good working horse like this, the neck is typically well muscled, which can make it look short.
I've seen this look from this angle (just out of range, if you please), and she's done a marvelous job. Thanks Jennie!

I LOVE this piece. I can almost hear him thinking, "Try it. I dare you." It's wonderful.
