SciFi and Fantasy Art: DM: Rishala ('02)

Yet another character sketch from a role playing game I'm involved with.

Rishala of Orkney

Rishala was once an ordinary shepherd, before an unexpected trip to Phaerie made him part of a greater destiny. Now a storyteller and sage, he crossed paths with a thief named Bilbus and became his unlikely shadow as he sought answers to mysterious visions.

In general, your sketches are just awesome. But for some reason, this one really caught my attention. The shading is excellent, and the texture on his clothes is really well done. Like you can feel the fur with your eyes. Truly a master piece.

O.k. everyone seems to have a roleplaying char of somesort, so i was feeling very ignorant, and am wondering if you can tell me rpgs are....anyways, e-mail me if you could, and title the mail rpg please

Thanks!

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "RPGs are role playing games. Some are via chat or email, but the ones I play are with a group of friends. You pick out a system that has rules published in books (like Cyberpunk, D&D, etc.), and you make a character based on those rules to fit in the world, and then you 'play' the character, rolling dice to determine if he/she can do certain things. It is part acting and part make believe. There is usually a GM who spins the story, and you react to the events as your character would do. At it's very best, good roleplaying is like being a character in a novel and watching the story unfold around you. If you have more questions, do an online search. You can find lots and LOTS of RPG sites online for a variety of different worlds. "

Wow, this is awsome... But i've always wondered how ppl do the shafts of light!

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "I sketched in the arches, and then used a kneaded rubber eraser to put in the streaks. Trick is to keep the angle of the sunlight the same for all windows. "

I ponder... how good can you ever get?

I really like the clothing and hands, but I think you have a couple more light rays than you need, but it doesn't really take away from the picture overly.

TEXTURE! WOw! (insert positive adjectives of your choice, there are too many I'm thinking of)
It seems to me that his face and hands are a little plain (undetailed) by comparison, but this is still excellent.

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Had a hard time with his hands. They did not come out very well. "
