SciFi and Fantasy Art: DM: Sturm ('00)

This was done at work on a small sketchbook to keep myself from getting bored. It is one from a series of 8 that I am finishing for a Mythus roleplaying campaign I participate in. This scan is only slightly smaller than actual size.

Sturm Sunblade
Sturm is a Knight of the Sun and a formidable warrior. Unfortunately he has no sense of humor and isn't much of a people person. Unknown to all the characters at this point, Sturm is a key figure in an ancient prophecy.

The player did base this character on Sturm Brightblade from Dragonlance. If this confuses or irritates you, please take it up with him.

Go here for more on the Dark Mysteries campaign.

9-00, mechanical pencil, 8.5x5.5 sketchbook

Hey i really like your drawin. I used a part of it for a lj icon. I hope thats ok. If its not just tell me and ill remove it. 2

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "In the future, do ask the artist before you alter their work for anything. I don't mind you using the piece as an lj icon, but if you made it from this image it probably doesn't look very good. If you email me I can make you one from a higher quality image. "

I am new and I've just been looking over your work and I must say your talent is...well I am over come with evny 1back to me looking over to your work this is the first one I have come across that I have a bad opion of well the face, the sword everything execpt the arms are perfect I'm afraid to say the arms just don't look real, the don't look capable of lifting things or bending or anything for that matter. I hate to come across as well person who looks on only fault but well I just have to get my opion across oh and please do more work on mermaids?

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Yeah, the arms are stiff. There's nothing I can do about them now. *shrug* I do have more mermaids in the works. "

Excellent picture, good news I read the artist-description thingy before i freaked out2 I didnt freak out, it is still an awsome picture, but I am sad that people only ever pick out the hard traits from sturm when they base characters off him. Anyone who has read the books four hundred and fifty times (fifty being the imperative number..once you've read it that much you are One with weis and hickman and, unfortunately, tasslehoff...) knows that though sturm seemed tough on the outside, he acctually was a very loving character..*sniffle* I'd better stop, i'm getting all...emotional..heheh, Excellent picture.

14 Jennie Seay replies: "Unfortunately, a RPG character's range of expression is ultimately limited to the roleplaying skill of the player. The fact that Sturm (the PC) is grumpy, uncharismatic and has all the personality of a rock is best blamed on the player, rather than the inspiration. ;-) Thanks for reading the description. "

Definitely 450 is optimal for really understanding Sturm. As a huge fan of Dragonlance, I've got issues with the rip off, but I'm not here to tell you about it. Really, I just love this picture. Great work on the detail. You've really rendered a unique, strong depth to this character. Just artistically speaking, the lines are clean and the shading is great. I love your style. Keep up the good work.

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Yeah, I'm not exactly thrilled with players that rip off previously existing (and well known) characters for their own PCs. Shows a lack of imagination, in my opinion. *shrug* But I'm also not about to lecture my friends on why their character concept is stupid, so . . . Thanks very much for the comment, and for reading the description. 1 "

Another great drawing. i love the fact that you draw historically viable weapons, it just does my heart good. Since I am starting to mix my love of drawing with my love of swords, I prefer to see more realistic weapons in art work and in all my newer drawings I add that little touch it helps add believability to a fantastic situation. Well that's how I see it anyway.

God Bless
John
