SciFi and Fantasy Art: Moon

Well...I found my little brother's old pastel set, and this is what came of it. I know it's a bit smudgy, but I'm still learning. I have to say, I am totally in love with pastels now. Tell me what you think about it, and any tips you may have! I would really appreciate it.

This picture is so cool... If you had this made into a poster I would buy it. 1 I love that tiny little silhouette against that huge mooon... It's very cool 2

So, you're gona taken the pastel -way, eh 12 I'll tell you just one thing: "see it - before you do it". And remember, there's nothing one can't achieve with dedecated practicing. Luckyly art can also be practiced by other means than just drawing... 12

chalk pastels, yes? I've never been able to make anything but a huge mess with any sort of pastel, so I have no tips to offer, though I do like this piece. I'm a sucker for drama, and silhouettes against a moon are nothing if not wonderfully dramatic. Nice job.

blah, well i rather have a thing against chalk pastels, so that makes it extra-*specially* annoying that this is so good! it kind of reminds me of 'a nightmare before christmas' when jack skellington stands on that curly pinnacle, only this is decidedly less curly (but equally as atmospheric!).

I like it. I agree it is very Tim Burtonesque... I love Tim Burton. Do some more experiment. I use pastels too,so I know how hard it is. There are some pastels that are stuck in pencils, they give you more chance to do detail. I recently got some and they are great!!

Pastels are supposed to be smudgy! That's why they're so fun, you can get messy, and make art too. I love this one, it has a great atmosphere to it.

The "smudgy" look works very well, and the colors you used are giving it a very mysterious atmosphere. I like those views with the moon in the background.
