I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has been so kind as to lavish all sorts of praise on me and my work. I certainly don’t deserve to be treated so well, but it helps lift me up when I'm feeling down and inspires me to keep working. I’m grateful to know that people respond to my work, and that you are so generous with your comments. I try to reply to all the emails I receive, and though I’m not very good about leaving comments in other people’s Elfwood galleries, I do look at your work if you send me a link. I also appreciate those who have offered constructive criticism because I am determined to keep learning. I graduated from Brigham Young University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration. I did these pieces for my final project, and my friend Aaron Jasinski (check out his stuff in gallery 24) recommended that I display on this site. I should give credit here to Lloyd Alexander, the author of the Chronicles of Prydain, the books that inspired this work. It is a series for children and young adults including The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, Taran Wanderer, and The High King (winner of the 1969 Newbery award for children's literature). I have never seen the Disney film based on the same series--and don't intend to--but I highly recommend the books. For me, they rank right up there with the work of J.K. Rowling, C.S. Lewis. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah and work as an artist at a video game developer called Avalanche (www.avalanchesoftware.com). I paint and do some freelance illustration in my spare time. I also teach a life drawing class part-time at BYU. If you ever wonder what I have been doing lately, please visit my online gallery at JustinKunz.com.

I just finished reading the Prydain Chronicles (I can't believe I didn't know about them when I was growing up!) and I was excited to find your gallery. This is beautiful work--and it doesn't spoil my imagination of the characters. Very enjoyable gallery2

Beautiful! How can I say it any other way? Your oil paintings are so enchanting! Any painting that makes a person crave to reread the books is a success, so yours are phenomenal. Keep up the good work!

I have read the Prydain Chronicles many times in my short fifteen years, and i have never seen someone so perfectly capture the souls and personalities of each and every character so well. All of them have been drawn to utter perfection; I am awed by your amazing skill. I believe King Smoit may well be my favorite, or possibly Dallben.
