Kathleen Hardy replies: "That was the reason I put the markings on the women as well, to connect them to the fish and foxes. Also, because some audiences have trouble dealing with frontal nudity, and some of the shows where I exhibit have young people attending, the markings allow me to have the figure in the pose I want without having to censor the work, not exhibit the work, or put a bathing suit on the figure (something that really annoys me).
