As an Italian, I am deeply offended by the assertion that romans are gay. You are dead wrong and your ethnic slurs are not tolerated around here. I will report you to the ERB.

:-) K.d.Rankins replies: "Kindly note this is not an ethnic slur. Because the ancient Greeks and Romans were not Christian, homosexual practices were generally accepted. Of course not all Romans (or Italians) are gay. This has little to do with the comment, but --- I would really appreciate it if these comments are no longer left on my site. This art was done years ago - I no longer wish to open my mailbox to see debates on homosexuality. If you have a problem with it, find another site rather than preaching how it's wrong. We all have our different beliefs. Believe what you want; just don't preach in my comments boxes."

Tsitra, the bible was originally written in greek and hebrew. The original english conversion of the bible was translaterd from the original greek and hebrew, and not the roman translation as is popularly believed. There are very few admonishments to homosexuality in the bible (about 7 or so and some are debatable) yet there are over 200 admonishments to heterosexual sex.... go figure.

Homosexuality in rome was conducted very much in secret. It was not disliked as it is in modern western culture but it WAS taboo and only very powerful persons (emperors mostly) could flaunt such a relationship without social repercussions. In ancient greece however (one of the two languages as mentioned above) homosexuality was far more open, greek men did not believe women had the value to deserve a 'relationship' and were considered property so emotional relationships were formed between men.

Btw yes the picture is great 1

This is a more Hellenic activity (nothing wrong with that, Hellenic culture was gorgeous) than a Roman one, my astute scholars, but it was plenty popular in the Republic itself. Just kind of, well, swept under the table, as were. In any event, a lovely picture. Makes me think of, oh, I don't know... Sulla was a noteworthy Roman bisexual, but neither of these men is Sulla... egads... let us leave it as that it's a lovely picture! You should do one of King Mithradates, sometimes. Now THAT was a pretty cool type of dude there! Ha!

This picture shows an unatural union of two men. Everyone knows homosexuality is wrong. We are created "Imago Deo" (in the image of God). The bible says in Romans chapter 1 that "men supress the truth by their wickedness." It's sin. If you have a bible read Romans chapter one. Mankind does not naturally love God. We are born enemies of God. It is only by His grace that we can be made right with God through Jesus Christ. Since Homsexuality is a sinful choice (you are not born gay) there are consequences for that sin just like other sins. Keep this in mind. If you as a homosexual hate the truth of God, He will cause you to believe a lie. My prayer is that many homosexuals will by God's grace come to know Jesus Christ as their savior before they slip off into eternal torment.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Ryan

One thing I didn't quite get.

There seems to be quite a lot of debating and opinion flinging and throwing, even though I see the artist writing :
"I no longer wish to open my mailbox to see debates on homosexuality. If you have a problem with it, find another site rather than preaching how it's wrong. We all have our different beliefs. Believe what you want; just don't preach in my comments boxes."

...so why the sinful-thing right there above that beautiful comment above mine ? I tell you, humans are fascinating..
Even more so, is this artist here !
Your drawings are truly beautiful, there is such a truth in some of them, such delicate stillness and clearness in others, your art has such character and identity !
Such a pleasure to run through your gallery !
Keep art coming, with the technique you possess and that "something else" which is so rare, and hard to define.

I love this picture, it's so sweet, and they really seem to be in love, which is awesome. Also, I too am Italian, and I also understand that the Greeks and Romans were not also in SOME circumstances have relations with men, but daily raping their slaves, male or female, so the whole anger about how your showing them in the wrong light (as said by another commenter *looks up*), this is nothing compared to what else they did.
Anyway, I lvoe the shading on this, very well done, but it does kind of looking the dark haired one is sucking the guys lips like a vacume cleaner, but other than that, YAY!!!!
