| 11 Sep 2004 | Avalon | great picture. I think it should've gotten a mod's choice!
Me too! Actually, I understand the difficulty a mod might have in looking at a piece like this and trying to determine whether it truly fits the fantasy/sci-fi theme of Elfwood.
| 11 Sep 2004 | Holland87 | Whiew! first comment on a future mod's choice!!! (at least, I wouldn't be surprised) Great piece of art! a Niels' choice anyway!
Thanks Niels! This is the type of work I really love to do: pieces that force one to really look and to think about what is being said in the piece.
| 18 Sep 2004 | Melissa Findley | Wow. This is really cool. I'm not usually into abstract art, but this is really phenomenal. I love your color choices, and the explaination. Are the "sparkles" white ink? Great job! Thanks. The white "sparkles" are actually little indentations I made in the paper with an embossing tool prior to colouring with colour pencil. They don't show up as well in the scan as they do in the original piece (big surprise there, huh?). In the original they're quite definite, and quite evenly spaced. Oh, and by the way, I'll be submitting one of my "hurricane pieces" in the next week or so, the other's going to take a bit longer. You got lucky, we were without electricity for three days, some people here will be without electricity and water for much, much longer. | |
| 6 May 2005 | Martha Schmidt | Such a great picture! I saw this when I looked through Epilogue as well, and I love it! Swirls are the best! ^_^ That string theory sounds interesting. I'll google it to find out more. Heh, I should try drawing something like this one day... It's really fascinating!
Do read up on string theory.. it's fascinating stuff.
| 25 Jun 2005 | Scott Medchill | Very excellent abstract picture, but my understanding of string theory is COMPLETELY different then yours (something about the frequency of each undulating string determines the shape and density of the universe)
Your understanding of string theory isn't all that different than mine, I think I just stretch (er.. pun fully intended) what I know about string theory to its limits.

| 28 Oct 2005 | Paul J. Townsend | Well the only I know about are the ones keepin' my shoes on I would that to know what color pencil did you use.
I used Prismacolors of course.
With that said, I should also point out that there are several excellent brands of colour pencils available.. I just happen to like Prismacolors the best. Another good pencil to try is Derwent, which I actually like better than Prisma's for working on black paper.
Side note: I can't believe that I've just admitted to liking another pencil better than Prismacolor.. and in public no less.
| 15 Nov 2005 | Paul J. Townsend | I use my daughters crayola myself HAH. I meant in what colors did you use.
hmm.. I used the full array of warm and cool greys, black, white, and probably the colourless blender. In all, about twelve different "colours" were used. I know it seems as though using eight to ten different greys seems sort of redundant (why not just use black and white to make grey?), but it really isn't the same.. especially since Prisma black and white are cool colours. It makes it easier on me cramped little hands too, since there really isn't much pure black or white in the drawing.
