| 21 Jan 2003 | Jennifer Lorraine | THAT's coloured pencil?! How long did that take? How many layers are there? How hard did you press on the pencil and is your sharpener still able to sharpen?! GREAT picture. It's absolutely gorgeous! *does a belated first comment dance* Those eyes are amazingly deep..
1. Yes, it's colour pencil. 2. It took about a month, though I didn't work on it continuously the whole time, I sometimes work on as many as ten drawings at a time. 3.Some areas are only one layer, some are many, many more. 4. If I'm layering, the initial layers are very light. I always "burnish" my colour pencil drawings though, and by the time a drawing is done the surface has a slick appearance, ie: I press very hard on the final layers. And yes, my (electric) pencil shrapener is still alive
| 23 Apr 2003 | Lothlorien_woodz | Ahhh~! why are there so few comments? This is absolutely breathtaking! I love the atmosphere you created by the expertly blended hues of blue and green. I especially love ur glowing cheeks! *grin* And the girl (you, i suppose) has this look of peace around her. Exquisite piece.
You're correct, it's me. I'm not really blue though, and I don't have elf-like ears.. but other than that, it's me.
| 21 Sep 2003 | Someone | WOW!!! That's reeeeeeeeeally good! I wish I knew how to use coloured pensiles...*sighs and feels bad for herself* If that's you, you must be very pretty Thanks for your comment. I like colour pencil because I find them to be more 'controllable' than paints,just remember to start light and build colour slowly. Yes, it's a self portrait taken from a photograph, and it's a good likeness. | |
| 25 Sep 2003 | Someone | Thanks for the tip! I think I've been pressing to hard or starting to dark. *stops feeling sorry for herself and gets to work*
Practice is probably the most important thing you can do for your art. With colour pencil remember to start slowly, it's common for people just starting out with the medium to start out too dark. And keep those points sharp so that your paper recieves the full intensity of your colours.

| 14 May 2004 | Bakani | Wow!! That's awesome. I wish my art was so nice. What type of colored pencils do you use?
Thanks. I use Prismacolor colour pencils. They're available in most half decent art supply stores, and several places online. In Europe they're available as Karismacolors. What I like about these particular pencils is that they're very soft and blend very well. I often get the reaction, "Wow, that's colour pencil?!" when people look at my work.. and then the close up inspection with their nose a few inches from the drawing.. followed by a "Cool." when they realise that it is indeed colour pencil.
| 25 Aug 2004 | Auris | Seriously? How old are you, then? @.@
I just love shallow people.
| 14 Sep 2004 | Emily Heather Brown | Beuatiful!! I love the colours!! Very cooling, but some what...er...I can't describe it...*slaps self* I need my dictionary back!! ^^;
Thanks, I think I catch your drift, dictionary in hand or no.
| 22 May 2005 | Valerie Joanne Higgins | Lovely twilight feel to this.
The photo I drew this (self) portrait from was dark.. taken in the late afternoon in a waterfall glen near where I grew up. The far-away gaze is very much mine.. as is the wry sort of "almost there" smile.
