| 30 Apr 2004 | Green Phoenix | What a beautiful picture! I think keeping it in a narrow colour range definitely gives it a dream-like quality. It is a lovely concept and, also, the mermaid seems to glow. . Thank you. A couple of people have mentioned in another forum that I should have used some complemetary colours to help deepen the shadows. Though I appreciate their opinion and understand where they are coming from, I'm not so sure I agree. Yes, the shadows would be deeper, thus the hightlights even brighter, but I liked staying in the blue-green pallet in this picture. I did the same in "Ancient Elven One" and find I like this restricted pallet a great deal. It's very "me". | |
| 30 Apr 2004 | Jennifer Leigh | Hmmm... she's wishing to have something she all ready has. Kinda reminds me of human nature. I love her expression, content in her dreamworld. Her anatomy is well done and the background keeps the eye moving throughout the piece. Good work!.
It is indeed human nature to think we don't have that which we've had all along, much like Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz". I won't comment on the anatomy. Being overly critical of my own work, I see some problem areas, but then I think that all artists are probably over-critical of their own work.
| 30 Apr 2004 | Kateyz | Beautiful bravo its great awsome i love it anyway shes laucky shes a mermaid i wanna be a mermaid or faerie.....
Thanks. I like this drawing as well. I'm not so sure I'd want to be a mermaid, a crow or hawk would probably be my first choice if I had the choice to be something other than human.
| 12 May 2004 | Adair Siiver | Stunning work, especially for coloured pencil! Your art is extremely inspirational, and your lighting and colour tecqniques ares stunning. . Although it seems to be fantasy-based, I think the real source of inspiration for my art is religion and the human condition. I'm glad you feel my drawings are inspirational, it's always rewarding when someone sees beyond the mere image I've used to put forth my message. | |
| 7 Jun 2004 | Leo Bojalil | Hello...it´s nice the mermaid i like it, besides that my fav color is blue..the game of textures and forms of the seaplants and the tail is nice..i like it..and the way u manage the color and shades is nice...maybe some more contrast on the lights, but still is nice..I like it....well I have a fanatsy with mermaids..so u cousl see another reason why i like it-...hehehe...¬¬ This is one of my favourate colour schemes to work in. I dunno.. maybe it's the Pisces in me. I like the tail treatment on this mermaid as well. Too many people, in my opinion, try to show a clear delineation between the human part and the fish part, and I have to wonder why. If you like mermaids you'll have to be sure to check back in a couple months, I have five more in the works. | |
| 8 Jul 2004 | Brian L. Husted | Wow, the color in this is absolutely beautiful. I love the way that you have given her and the plants a real sense of mass and weight. Everything is looks very three dimensional, this drawing is great.
I love working in the blue/turquoise pallet, and I've done a few drawings in that limited pallet of late (see "Ancient Elven One" for another example). I'm still working on improving my work with my medium of choice, and expect I will be the rest of my life.
| 28 Oct 2006 | Freakstar | Im not normalaly big on mermaid pic's but that's just so awsome!!!
Thanks. I am a big fan of mermaid pics (must be the whole pisces thing), and I like this one too. I'm not too crazy about the way her hands are rendered, but the rest I like.
