SciFi and Fantasy Art: Aquamarine

Painted in Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from scratch.

This is Cristallin Arrose, a soquili who loves water. He comes from an RP universe created by Sirenz (the same person who created the characters in my "Childhood" picture, also found in this gallery). Soquilis are magical horses, reincarnations of the Wind Horse of the Choctaw legend.

I thought this picture wouldn't come out very good because I don't have much experience painting underwater scenery. I had a solid idea of how the lighting would work, though (it's pretty simple as you can see -- a single light source supplemented by the aquamarine color of the surroundings), and that was enough, as it turned out. I'm rather happy with the result.

By the way, the horse himself has a turquois coat. The cyan coloration isn't *just* from the underwater-ness.

I am doing the illustrations for my next one coming soon. This is beautiful the horse, and the lighting. This is just a dream of mine to be as wonderful as this one turned out!! Painting water always scares me. I can’t believe that you were worried about it. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear that you had been drawing underwater scenes forever Keep them coming!!!!!
