SciFi and Fantasy Art: Rina's Mermaid

I painted this as a going-away present for my room-mate, Rina, the weekend before she went back to Japan. It wasn't until after it was finished and scanned that I realised that something about the face, especially eyes, resembles my mother.

9' by 12', acrylic on canvas board.

Oooh... Betta mermaid! ^^ Maybe not, but close enough? Very purdy! Sorry for the wow-ish comment, I'm a bit tired right now. Oh, and congratulations that you made it into Epilogue! I don't even dare trying for it! O.o;;yes, it is a beta mermaid! I modled her fin colors/form after my Beta Tsuru. Of course, she's female and the fancy betas are male, but that's where fantasy comes in.

Beautiful use of color on this one! The hair and tail gives it a real sense of motion. Good job!

Egad! I'm a mermaid! Now everyone will think I look like this which is very flattering. I like your betta tail and the little hip fin thingys.Oh? I thought everyone already new that my mother swam around topless and had a fish butt. 2 Kathryn agrees with me - she has your eyes!

You didn't show me this one! It's great! Really beautiful. You show a lot of improvement in perspective and realism in this piece. Too cool. (11t was a two day painting marethon, and then I sent it off to Japan. There wasn't any time!

Hi, Sarah...'bout time I left a comment, given how long I have been looking at your art. =P Love the sea-turtle shell, and the way the color shades giving the perception of depth; under sea pics, or ones involving water are tricky, and my personal bane, kudos. So THATS what your mother looks like...Thanks for stopping by, Adrienne. The deep dark secret to undersea pics is to use a photo reference (yeah, I'm *that* cheap). And that's mom tail and all. 10

There's something about the nose that just bugs me, but besides that, great painting! I envy your ability with acrylics!
