 | | | | | Date | Name | Comment | | | 11 Sep 2004 | People who know good art! (we are back!) | First of all just because you are an amateur doesn´t mean that your art can´t be good, or do you mean that amateurs can´t draw? And yes, we have taken the time to study your art and the shading you are refering to in Troll Queen and Goblin Lass are non-existent! Do you think that the clothing in "A sad Departure"(2001), "Mage" (2004) or "Amazon Priestess" (2004) are sophisticated? There is no shadowing what so ever, just because your making the contoures darker doesn´t mean that you are shadowing! Do you even know what the word sophisticated means? The Oxford dictionary defines sophisticated as wordly-wise, elegant, fashionable, polished, highly-developed, complex, complicated, elaborate and ingenious! Explain the connection between these words and your drawings! We are very hurt by your comment that we know very little about art, we want to inform you that we have actually studied art for some years now and we know more about your art than you could ever imagine! And for the love of God we hope that your not trying to compare yourself with Picasso and Tove Jansson!! That would be pathetic. No, there is nothing wrong with having a personal style if you actually DO explore and develop it! So, what you are saying is that those who can´t draw well, draw anime? That is hurtfull, dude. We would like to see you draw anime!!! And by the way, we tought that you are suposed to write in english at Elfwood! But anyway: ei kiitos, valopallot aiheuttaa meille närästystä! Sitzt bitte deine Kopf in der Erde! Tu es une canard! Och sluta gnälla! PS: If you are born in another continent as you clame, you should have been born for example in Asia or Africa. As far as we know England is still a part of the European continent, or? Kerstin E. Lönnberg replies: "I've never claimed to be a next Picasso or Tove Jansson. I merely tried to point out that there ARE different ways to do art.I'm NOT claiming that the people who do anime/manga are people who draw badly (I've seen a lot of good anime/manga art here at Elfwood). I do, however, believe that there are a lot of people who are afraid of trying out new styles and instead draw anime or manga just because they are afraid of getting nasty critisism.True, there are a lot of "amateurs" who can draw in a very professional manner. But that doesn't mean that the definitions of the word "amateur" have changed. What I fail to understand is the "be extremely good at it or don't do it at all" - attitude ("Give up or practice more!!". I practice when I feel like doing it. This is a hobby, something I do for fun. Nothing more. Nothing less.)I have to agree that I could improve my shading. And I have been working on improving it about these past two years. But by claiming that the pictures that I've shaded have no shadowing you hurt me deeply (how low can you go?). The shading may be crude, but it is still there. It is fair to say that for many years my drawing skills had not improved (mostly cause I wasn't trying to improve them at the time). But these past two years I HAVE made improvements. I've gotten a better picture of human anatomy. (A lot of the women in my older pictures had awfully broad shoulders). Some of my men looked like women and I had no idea how to draw babies (the baby in "Life: The Beginning" looks like a nut, as someone quite plainly stated). A couple of years ago I had no idea how movement, gravity or weather (wind for example) affected clothing or hair.I could hardly draw anything without a model (in other words a lot of the clothing I drew was quite clumsily copied from different pictures and "hacked" together into something new).I never claimed that "Mage" or "Amazon Priestess" were shaded. And may I also point out that shading is NOT everything in a picture. The word "sophisticated" referred to the design! A couple of years ago quite simple pics could take days to draw. Nowadays it takes about a half hour for me to reach just a good, or better, results.I admit that it was unfair to claim that that you know very little about art... but you were just as unfair in your claims that I haven't improved my drawing skills. We both tried to voice opinions about things we know little about. (The whole "dude" bit made you sound ignorant like someone who doesn't even bother to check if I'm male or female).BTW, Here is a text from a dictionary:
conˇtiˇnent1 ( P ) 1. One of the principal land masses of the earth, usually regarded as including Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. 2. Continent The mainland of Europe.Used with the.
England is not part of the "mainland of Europe". (Okay, okay! I should have referred to it as "the continent" instead. Thanks for pointing that out!)" | |
| 10 Nov 2004 | Margot Bongers | I think your photowork, making people fairies and stuff is very lovely, you should make more of those they look great | |
| 23 Nov 2004 | Miss realistic | OH MY GOSH! WOMAN! HOW OLD ARE WE...AND WHAT WORLD DID YOU COME FROM. YOU ARE LIVING IN THE year 2004...soon to come 2005...get a life! Kerstin E. Lönnberg replies: "What world? Terra, third rock from the sun. What world are YOU from? And are you telling me to get a life because you haven't got one yourself? Is that it? Obviously you haven't got one if since you're behaving like a snotty eleven-year-old who's got nothing better to do with her time than to strutt around with her nose is the air and call other people's interests childish. I suppose you think "Lord of the Rings" was written by a kid. Get real! " | |
| 7 Sep 2005 | Anonymous | "People who know good art" has major brain problems, not to shore what it is... but they have one

| 18 Oct 2006 | Chris Davey | To People who know good art: You know...it must be so easy to run your mouth off when no-one can see your face, LET ALONE KNOW WHAT YOUR REAL NAME IS, IN WHICH YOU'RE TOO MUCH OF A COWARD TO GIVE IT!! Art comes in all shapes and sizes and as far as I'm concerned, I think that you're just some imature kid who's just looking for an excuse to be a little prick! If you had ANY maturity, you would know enough to give critism in a constructive way, not make a total ass of yourself by being rude!! GROW UP OR GET THE HELL OUT OF ELFWOOD IF YOU CAN'T BE NICE TO THE FEELINGS OF OTHERS!! GOT IT?? | |
| 23 Jan 2007 | Worm of the wood | hey people who know art, if your still out there, im here to agree with you! first off, i would like to point out, my little trekkie nino, that your style is almost non-existant. you could look on almost any page here on elfwood and find another artists work that would be hard to tell apart from yours. and improvement i have yet to seen. and trust me i know improvement. if arts your hobby i suggest getting a knew one. i also have to agree with People that your shading could most definatly get better. improving your style, yes wonderful idea, you however have not in anyway i can see, and i went through your entire gallery and compared ,done this. another thing, your poses are so simple it hurts. they dont get better, and the feet are akward. your not realist, your an optomist. srry but truth hurts. | |
| 27 Mar 2007 | ---Taybian--- <T | Well, greetings to you, Kerstin! It really has been quite some time, has it not? I have fond memories of the simple old days, with the RPing and whatnot. Yes, fond memories. I haven't logged into my Elfwood spot for a very, very long time, however I did happen across it a short while ago and, well... let's just say that I'm waiting for time to swallow it up. Nonetheless, it DID lead me to you, and I'm pleased with that! I am still quite fond of your artwork and would like to see more. So, how are we? | |
