| 10 Mar 2001 | Lisa | I think you have done a wonderful job on all of these... I especially like the one called silence, unicorns are my favorite type of animal and I think you did an excelent job on it! | |
| 5 Oct 2001 | carl mann | It was nice how you changed your bio to make it look like my honest critique was completely unsolicited. So you think my figures don't look quite right. If you look into my personal gallery you will see the reference photos for those paintings and the proportions are exactly the same. The heavy contrast was an homage to longo's style but i guess that was lost on you. I can appreciate how you would want to defend your work but your bombing my work was odd and mostly unfounded. I know i am not great but at least have an accurate critique of my work. No hard feelings. I thought i was being helpful. | |
| 18 Oct 2001 | Carl mann | I tend to be kind in my critiques so i cant imagine myself piling on unless you invited me to. You must have had a different bio because i wouldnt just jump on your case unless invited. I surf and comment and after seeing your bio i wondered to myself why i was so blunt with my critique of your work. I used a projector to get the figures on the longo type pics so there is no way the proportions are off unless you think that folks walking around have bad proportions. Maybe the shading isnt to your liking but i can deal with that. Maybe you do know longo. You must have had a different bio because i wouldnt have gone out of my way to be blunt. Usually i don't comment unless i am blown away by the artwork. You did have a different bio, didnt you? I have seen enough blistering critiques in art school around me and at me to know that it can be painful. I would not go out of my way to be hurtful. I have a problem killing an insect unless it is a parasite so i am not a hurtful type. I spent yesterday subbing for a high school art class and i spent today working on the mural of the bears in my gallery so i have some movement in the art world. I was trying to be a resource to you and and not a cause of pain. I am very easily not the best artist in elfwood but i do have some knowledge. I will absolutely fall on my sword and say that you are the better artist and wish you a great future in your artistic career. I wish you more success than i have had. It is a hard road. My shading is bad and my proportions are lacking. I have bad table manners and my b o is beyond words. With that i bid you good luck and good life. | |
| 8 Dec 2001 | Lisa Coleman | I think you certainly have a lot of expressive potential. But your work does have a lot of stiffness to it that hurts it. I have to agree with carl. Study lots of anatomy and do lots of figure drawing. Loosen up! find a picture of a person and try to draw it in just a few minutes. find the underlying structure of a figure. Scribble the figure out in a mass of tangled lines. Already you have a good start on knowledge of the figure, once you get it ingrained into you, it will flow off your fingertips like water onto the paper. | |
