SciFi and Fantasy Art: Elven Axes

These axes were requested by my fiance. They were for something him and a friend of his are doing. As the title says, they are elven axes (totally made up) No clue where the idea came from, but I'm quite proud of it.

Question: What's the hand doing there? Is it a scale thing? Fantastic work! Kristin Luoma replies: "Yeah the hand is a scale thing. While I was drawing them I was imagining the axes much larger than they were supposed to be. I let my mind run away with itself, so I drew the hands to make sure I didn't draw anything outrageously off proportionally."
