SciFi and Fantasy Art: Celtic Tree of life

This is the celtic tree of life. I'm not sure exactly how to explain the celtic tree of life, but the branches reach up to the heavens and the roots reach down below to the netherlands. The number 3 is sacred to the celts so therefore, the triskel in the middle. And some celtic braiding, as you can see I'm interested in history and mythology especially celtic history :)

I agree w/harmony the tree of life is supposed to represent the cycle of life. I am not to sure what gave you the idea for the knife through the tree.

The cicle of life ,for me, is based on the contradiction of life and dead ,so understand the sword .However i pesonaly prefer the dragon who eats of the roots, but you cant bring up such a simbol and sadisfy everyone so don't worry

I think its a unique picture - who says the Tree of Life has to be a circle? I know most pictures, are circles, but why be normal, she is being unique. I think it shows that life goes in all different directions, you chose you growth, your path, your future, but learn from your past, history, and your roots. Good job on the drawing!

wow! I am actually trying to find a tatoo design and am looking for a clipart type tree I havent liked all that I've seen but your tree is gorgeous it's like they have a million diffrent trees of life not just one and the irish folklore that goes behind it is endless very frustrating. but geez you really caught my attension with your drawing.

This is a personal work of art, so it should be beyond the boundaries of being able to be judged in the same realm it was created in. However, since there is an inquiry, I would have to say that it is a misnomer. I see destruction and anguish. The tree of life is traditionally a symbol of cycle and perpetual motion. You seem to have broken the chain, piercing the tree and dispersing the snake-like branches, but then again, perhaps they were actually freed.

That is Yggdrasil of norse, not celtic, mythology.

Artists Note: Your right, I can't draw...

:-) Kristin Luoma replies: "Actually, I'm familiar with the norse myth, and you're right, sort of. Ygdrasil is of north mythology, but the tree of life isn't just norse. There are references to it in Celtic mythology, as well as others. It's not exactly the same in every mythology, but there are many different versions of it. I've done a good bit of reading on Celtic mythology. While I'm no expert by any means, I do know something of what I'm talking."

I really like this tree. It is graceful, and beautiful. I don't see a tree that should be like other trees, I see a tree that to me represents the many directions life can take you. I also especially like the seed and the fruit depicted here, if someone really wants to get technical the tree is never-ending, the fruit will drop and new life will begin! Simply beautiful and simplistic.

Your mostly right but the reason that boy said it was norris is very simple you did like the norris tree yes you are right the celts have one to but the celtic trees root and branches intertwian to show that life is a contuing cycle and one thing that lead you to the branchs but with every action theres a balance so you path could lead you to the roots and viceaversa its a cool pic though i like it

I have a celtic tree of life tattoo, and heard that a tree without leaves is a symbol of death. Is this true? So far i can't find anything about this.

nice job. The way that i read this pic is a continuim of life and death all the the druid tree represents. The way the branches intertwine to me represents the way our paths will always cross no matter witch way you choose to turn. Nice work
