SciFi and Fantasy Art: Loss of a Child

First off. Before anyone begins to go on about the lack or her being in proportion, I intentionally did that. It was the mood I was in I guess. She is supposed to be from Ancient Egypt but you can't really show that unless she is drawn as royalty or a goddess with all of the decorative jewelry and clothing. She was in the early stages of pregnancy when she had a miscarriage. The butterfly represents the child flying away from her. I made the child take the form of a butterfly because they are sometimes seen to symbolize rebirth. You can't quite see it on the scan, but the body of the butterfly is actually one of the symbols for the Goddess. The Godess is part of the child and is guiding the child onward. Wow, I seem to be getting more and more symbolic :)

i don't care whether the proportions are a little bit off in this.you have artistic liscence!Anyways,i love the symbolism & the pose.realy compelling & inspiring.makes the on-looker all emotional, at least it did me anyways.

Hrm, well first thing I thought of when I saw this pic and the ankh is of Isis and Horus and how Isis nearly lost Horus to poison. But this obviously has no relation ^_^; The emotion is quite evident, tho, and it's a very interesting concept.

i think her head is too big for her body (I did it again)2 Don't hate me for telling that ::"giggles" I do it too all the time. Big heads, small bodies, oh well ::"smiles"

:-) Tara Kristen Young replies: "Yeah...on this drawing that was intentional. I was using a different style to kind of add to the chaos of emotions."

Wow. A pic that actually made me cry! Impressive... I thought I'd successfully closed off all my emotions until today. Very moving picture... I know the feeling behind the pic, seeing as how I have lost more than one child thru miscarriages. A very touching piece, Tara... thank you for it & Blessed Be.

I like the symbolicism of the picture. At first i couldn't tell the thing was a butterfly, it does kind of look like a squid that she threw. I guess just work on the butterfly, because on the computer it tends to blend things together. Nice work though, i would buy it for my personal collection.

"Suddenly she cought violently and she felt that something important had left her body through her mouth. Realising that the thing now in flight probably was vital to her body she stretched out her hand trying to catch it. It was too late, the slimy organ took flight and escaped her. A tear fell from her eye as she watched it fly towards the horizon never to return..."
