SciFi and Fantasy Art: Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty was the first story I ever heard and the first movie I ever saw (that I can remember). I felt like doing my own version of her and suddenly it turned into a religious picture. If you are familiar with Paganism, you will probably recognize alot of things in the picture. The murals are meant to be blurred and faint because they are supposed to be deteriorating. I had alot of detail but it didn't quite come out when I put it on the puter. The murals are also not meant to be in proportion.

No scanner? Ouch! I feel your pain! *LOL* You might be able to salvage your pics with a photo program, but I doubt it. Keep in mind that you can get a good flat bed scanner for $69! I bought my $69 Mustek at Office Depot, and it works great. It also comes with Picture Publisher, which is awesome for fixing things up! Something to keep in mind with Christmas coming up! ;-)

Thanks for the advice but unfotunately the result of the pic on the comp is from my digital camera. At the moment I don't have a scanner and have to use a digi cam. I have tried over and over and the cam is just not consistent in its pictures. If I ever get a scanner I'll keep your advice in mind ^_^

This pic has the look and feel of a tarot card. Some advice on scans: Scan in B&W images in greyscale mode, not color mode. That will get rid of those disturbing moire' (rainbow patterns) that smudge up the drawings. Also, make sure that you place a piece of thick, opaque, white, and blank paper behind the image while scanning. Many 'muddy" scans are the result of the stuff behind the image showing through (like the scanner's black cover plate. Finally, if you get a scan like this, use your paint program to adjust the "Levels". In photoshop, "Auto-Levels" works wonders, and will sharpen the pic and darken the lines. I hope this helps you because there is nothing more frustrating than having a drawing you worked hard on messed up by the scanner! I know, I have been there! 1

Nice picture! For me it was peaceful and graceful at first glance, but looking deeper I get the feeling of tension in the air... like somethings wrong. If you don't have a scanner you could go to a copy store like Kinkos and have it done cheap.

I don't exactly understand it- which is probably due to the fact that I'm not familiar with paganism. My fave part is the deer- you should do more pics of animals- your obiviously talented at drawing them.
