SciFi and Fantasy Art: Skull Chasm

This is a picture I did while dabbling with some different things in Photoshop. It's not exactly completely 3D, but I really like how the skull came out. Completely computer generated with Photoshop 4.

Skull? Oh. Neat. Is the background bloody? Was the skull riddled with manticore needles or bored by dire gnats? Where is this chasm, in a badlands or cavern? Where is/was the body? Did the skull ever have a body or was it born disembodied? Will it grow a body, or simply skin or simply bones? Did the manticore eat the body? Was the skull left to ward off intruders or as a message to the skull's former owner's friends? I will skulk away, now.
