SciFi and Fantasy Art: The dazzling Mr. Artemis de Parmas

Phew, it certainly took some while to get this picture onto the gallery. It depicts a PC from my group, a swashbuckling fighter, who seems to strive at being the most cursed man in the campaign. Currently (but hopefully not permanently) his skin is pale white and he stinks like a skunk. I hope his streak of bad luck soon turns...otherwise the future looks grim for this young lad!

Two things. Artemis is a girl's name, an old Greek goddess, actually. Second, the rapier is way to short (foils and other swords made for fencing is generally rather long). Other then that I like it. Very musketeer.Thomas' reply: I didn't choose the name; the person who plays the character did. As for the rapier I hoped to get the effect that it is pointing towards the viewer...

Love the costume as always your knack for clothing is astonishing. your forshortening could be tweaked(but I am not one to speak) And Artemis can be a male name as in Artemis Entreri(sp?) from Salvatore's dark elf books.

Name is perhaps a variation on the Aremis of "The Three Musketeers", one wonders? *smiles* By the way, Thomas, I may one day kidnap you, chain you in my apartment and force you to draw PCs and NPCs for my group's games. But Lars wouldn't like me for that...

Its an absolutly great drawing, alot of talent, my problem with is: He looks like a musketeer, i meen wheres the evil?

:-) Thomas K. Laurfelt replies: "Actually the player wanted him to look like that, and I think the name was intended to sound like one of the three nusketeers! He's not an evil character and I don't know where you got that idea!"

This is a great pic! Your technique is lovely, and it has a real atmosphere to it. The one thing I would work on, though, if I were you, would be the proportions. They seem to be just a wee bit off.

I've got something to say, i think that you are really good at using pencils for shadows, because it gives some life to the drawing BUT i think that it's a pity that you have some problems with proportions of a human body, you have a lot of "power" but you should sharpen it while looking at some anatomy books or using tutorials your drawings will be much more better than before.....

go on....

The one thing that bothered me about this is the placement of the arms... It appears that if you follow them to the torso, the shoulders will be far too close together... or the arms will be coming out of the chest. Maybe it's just perspective throwing me off... *shrugs* But I do like the unicorn! Am I the only one who thinks this resembles Inigo Montoya of the Princess Bride? Eh, must be the sword...

Ooh! I like him, he looks so skilled. He looks either mad or he is concentrating real hard.
