SciFi and Fantasy Art: Iss-Hogai

This is just a simple dai-katana I designed some time ago. the name 'Iss-Hogai' is the name of a sword in a book I read once. It means 'For Life' in japanese, I believe. That fact that a sword could be called this touched me somewhat at the time, and aided my studies in martial arts. The hilt was drawn in pencil, imported into photoshop and the blade fabricated from scratch there, blended on and then lens flare and other effects where added

Let me guess... Eric van Lustbader-fan? ;-) Just because of the name... I think I read the same book. Anyway, the pic as well as the sword itself is cool.... and to me, the dai-katana is the most elegant but deadly weapon in the world (maybe rivaled by a gunsen... ;-) )

That is not a dai-katana. They are two handed and curved.

Hey retard, an average dai katana's blade is at least four feet long. Yah, nice mediocre photoshop skills, you could make it cleaner and more realistic.

And I forgot one thing if was going to say.... You are very talented at drawing on the computer by the way. If I'm drawing anything at all, it has to be made with a paper and pen, I'm completely hopeless at making pictures on the computer.

Nice picture...However, it isn't a Dai-katana...
A Dai-katana is MUCH longer than that and, as one of the "anonymous" wrote, The dai-katana is two-handed ...
If you instead of writing that it is a Dai-katana would say it was a normal "Katana" or maybe a "Tanto" I would have nothin' to complain about..

it's a cool sword, but i'm sorry to say it is niether a dai katana or a katana. Both katana and dai katana were two handed, and curved. As far as i know, the Japanese had no straight swords. As well, the dai katana were bloody HUGE. Also, Japanese swords have very traditional hilt styles- they're wrapped in cord, not carved. I would have to say that really, this resembles most an antique Chinese sword.

I remember the name of the main character of that series.. Nicholas Linnear, I believe. The books are very good reading...

I think it's a pretty nice picture. Whatever happened to Nicholas Linnear anyway? That series ended, didn't it?
The Japanese did have both straight swords, and carved hilts. Not Katanas, but they did have them. Some Ninja used straight swords and in norther Japan where some Korean ancestry lies, they used some carved hilts. Take care!
