SciFi and Fantasy Art: Fae Dragon

This one emerged as a sketch in my sketchbook during a particularly boring school board meeting some time back, and once I got it scanned in there was no holding back. Although, I'm still struggling with the clash of colors in this picture. I don't have much of a natural talent for choosing good colors to go together, and I guess this is what I came up with. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the picture.

He is so cute. And I love the color, they don't clash at all (my opinion anyway). The color punch gives me the feeling of a jungle. Maybe if scientists/explorers went deep enough, they'd find this little critter. I love him.

You did very well on the colors. You chose two 'complimenting' colors, green and red. The two are so unlike that they compliment eachother. Other complimentary colors are blue and orange and purple and yellow. Also, if you can get one color next to a color alot like its complimentary, they often look good together, too, like blue and yellow or green and fuschia. Another type of coloring arrangement is putting like colors together to create a softer picture. Valentine's day is a good example, mixing pink, red, and white into a soft and lovely theme. Other themes can be greens and blues, yellows and oranges, purples and blues. The last concept I want to mention is warm and cool colors. Colors like blue and green are considered 'cool'. Colors like purple, orange, red, and yellow are considered cool. The colors in which the two meet are green and purple. If you have a mostly cool painting and add some warm offsets, that usually compliments a good composition very well.

Well, I'm done with my rant. Though the colors look good together, I'd suggest making them softer. They seem a bit harsh for something that small. A creature like a fae dragon I would expect to blend into its environment softly, like a lizard or a chameleon(unless its poisonous, poisonous animals are usually bright colors.).
