SciFi and Fantasy Art: Ninielīs first morning

'But Nienor ran on into the woods until she was spent, and then fell, and slept, and awoke; and it was a sunlit morning, and she rejoiced in light as it were a new thing, and all things else that she saw seemed new and strange, for she had no names for them.' (The Silmarillion)
Watercolor, march 2001

Why hasn't anyone commented on this, the figure is quite etherial streching out in the sunrise like that! The colours are very pretty and reminds me of the sunrises we have been having here lately. I love the textures of the grass it just makes me want to reach in and touch it! Great work on the water colour! ^_^

Beautiful and serene! The grass looks so lush, and it's such a neat pose...you captured the flow of Tolkien's prose very well here. Almost makes me want to try my hand at watercolor.

Wonderful serene mood! For some reason, I get the very exact impression of sunrise on Midsummer's Day somewhere in Finland (which is all right and proper, Tolkien himself was very fond of this lil' country)... blast me if I know why. The trees in the background could be a bit more, uh, tree-like.
Hannaīs reply: Yeap, thatīs one of the bad sides in textured watercolor paper, drybrush technique was said to work especially well in tree bark (no- one mentioned that if tried on textured paper the result is a close to a disaster... Always learnig new.) I didnīt try to fix those, it wouldīve only gotten worse 19) If you mean the small trees, they look like mushrooms, I know... 19)

Quite beautiful. The figure in the middle blends so well with her surroundings while also standing out (if that's not too contradictory). Really impressive, especially for watercolors. The trees in the foreground are nice especially with the dangling branches like willows. The rocks are cool too. I must admit, I just love shading, so I love your rocks 2

I love the way you work with watercolors... especially the blending. Oooh, the blending. Anyways, it's a great picture ^_^.
