SciFi and Fantasy Art: Firebird

I'd been reading Mercedes Lackey's retelling of the Firebird fairy tale and had ten minutes to kill at work while waiting for a field engineer to contact me - the result was inevitable! This started off as a simple ink doodle, which I scanned in and digitally coloured, using the airbrush in Paintshop Pro. This is probably my most successful experiment in digital colouring but I'm still not happy with the background.

7 Aug 2000	Chella 'Klawz' Reaves	Loading... Yet another Misty fire-bird that is close, but not how I picture them. Not that yours is wrong.. O_o; Anyway, I think my favorite part is it's tail. It looks nearly exactly how I picture the tail. ;D The flame-look to it.. I'll bet when it flies it looks like it's tail is on fire... ^_^; Excellent coloring! (but, yeah, you might want to do something else with the background if you still can..)The artist: Thanks for the comments! However, this isn't supposed to be one of the firebirds from Valdemar - rather the firebird / maiden from the Russian fairy tale.
