SciFi and Fantasy Art: Orc Warrior

The orc's grimy gray hair was bound with brown torn strips of cloth... A single braid indicating some significat status hung down to the right shoulder. The morningstar resting over his shoulder seemed to discomfort the creature not in the least.

I don't think of them looking that way, but it still works. That's one thing about Tolkiens work, we can all have different ideas of how things look. It is a nice drawing. I give it a 7.

I agree with you, Larry... This isn't how I picture Tolkien's orcs either. They would be a little more dumb and non-threatening, I guess... But I think you will agree that orcs have entered the fantasy pop culture and are now quite independent from Lord of The Rings which made them so popular. As one of those, i think mine makes a pretty good specimen 2

Quite a good drawing. I personally don't like the totally unintelligent orc that some portray. While they may not have the same kind of intelligence as a human, they can still be sly like a wolf or something.

Its a good pictur but it is missing the blood, scars and the wild look that i mean orcs have and were the hell is his weapon

TOLKIEN'S orcs would be a little more dumb and non-threatening. . .? Tolkien's orcs were nasty creatures, and I think it's the D&D Orcs, and the usual pop culture versions, that are dumb and harmless seeming. The picture is cool, I like that, for a change, he doesn't look like the typical orc with tusks protruding from his lower lip. The hair is a nice touch too

This is a good picture. but one little suggestion i cold make is that the bottom lip be a little more defined. its kind of just dissapearing somewhere. but im just being picky. nice work!

That has got to be one of the most interesting orc-faces I've seen.

I believe that orcs look more like elves, but with dark skin, not like an overgrown, battle scarred indian chief out of the 1800's.

Your right legolas. Here is some info about LOTR orcs. During the first age of Stars Melkor captured many of the newly risen race of elves and he took them and kept them in his dungeons. He commited horrible acts of torture on these elves and made them horrible and hideous life forms. From these he bred the orcs. SOOOOO...orcs must have some elf resemblence since they are basically desendants of the first elves. If im wrong please correct me.

ah first two comments made me wanna post, first nice pic once again. I just wanted to mention to first two how it is so true what your saying about tolkein's orcs etc, but i think he did it in such a way where its biased towards them being villians, so you can't make them too, dare i say it, handsome. In my mind, for some reason i see them as kinda elf like but with the muscles etc, not as in petite face and massive body, but not naturally ugly. This is kinda how id prefer to see orcs, as like the other races, they shouldnt be discrimitely ugly. my 2 cents.
