SciFi and Fantasy Art: Blood slakes the sand at the circus Maximus

'Blood slakes the sand at the Circus Maximus' Thats the name of the song that inspired this Drawing. The song is by the great brittish band Bal-Sagoth. This song speaks of a barbarian celtic warrior. having been captured by the Roman empire after a battle, the barbarian has been taken to the great arena of the circus maximus, the fight beasts & gladiators & deliver entertainment to the emperor of Rome. The emperor: 'Fight barbarian outlander! please us & mayhap Mars will smile on thee this day!' The barbarian: 'Bah! I do not hail to your Roman gods, and you are not my emperor! By Cernunnos, the blood of my enemies shall stain the sand of this cursed arena red this day!' To read the lyrics to this song which are beautyfully put together, visit www.bal-sagoth.co.uk

You are really good at delivering powerful messages through art. i really envy tht kind of skill, as most of my artwork is flashy and emotionless. the greatest artists are known primarily for thier abilty to transfer emotion, not just imagery. great job!

Not to be an ass but Circus Maximus wasn't a place for gladiator games I think, they had chariot races there, it was in the Colosseum they had gladiators and such 10

Superb picture none the less *big thumbs up*

Mikael, Circus Maximus was simply designed for the races, they were far from the only thing held there. Gladitorial fights, beast hunting, athletic events, the list goes on. It was infact preffered to the Colosseum by tourists and emperors alike. To the point where monuments (most notably an obelisk to symbolize the conquering of Egypt) were raised within the arena. It's sheer size alone made for more exciting gladiator events, especially beast fighting events and large-scale melee. The chariot races were simply the highlight.
Great and emotional piece, and a mighty HAIL to putting Bal-Sagoth on paper!
