She sifts the dust through her fingers, examining its texture and colour, letting it tell her exactly where her prey has been and where they are heading... A follower of tracks both visible and magical, as yet unnamed even though her personality is already well known to me, this is still my favourite picture so far even though it isn't finished.
A change from my usual women, I've been wanting to draw this picture, or rather this person for ages. I think there is something so beautiful about dark skin and as I hadn't drawn it before (most of my women being sort of scandinavian like me) I tried very hard to get it right, so much so she was merely a head for six months tacked to my wall. As you can see she still isn't finished but I thought I would give you a taste of things to come...
And I have managed to summon up the courage to draw a little more on her, or at least finish the shading on the upper body and her outfit as well as her polished wood staff. As soon as I figure out what I want her legs to be doing I may be able to continue, there is still plenty of space on the paper, and she deserves a background. [updated: Sept 12. 2006.]
Mechanical pencils on lightly structured cream coloured calligraphy paper (hence the slight speckle effect)
