SciFi and Fantasy Art: Snow White & Rose RedI've always loved this fairy tale, of the two sisters who befriend a bear in the middle of winter, and the dwarf who stole his treasure, and how they tricked the dwarf, etc. So I decided to illustrate it! It's the first time I used a border in a drawing, and I think it turned out neat. Also, I think Rose Red looks like Jennifer Connelly a little.

| 25 May 2008 | Aisling | Snow White and Rose Red is a story about two girls who live in a cottage with their poor mother. A bear comes to their door and they let him warm up by the fire every winter night untill summer when he says he has to go and guard his treasures from the gnomes, so he leaves. Later in the summer snow white & rose red are walking in the woods when they see a gnome who has caught his beard under a log. They free him by cutting his beard. He is very ungrateful, and picks up his bag of treasures and leaves. This happens many times and eventually they come across him counting his treasures outside a cave. The bear comes out and kills him. The bear turns into a prince because the gnome has bewitched him and taken his treasures. He takes the girls back to the cottage and marrys Snow White and his brother marrys Rose Red. THE END
btw, i like the picture! Its really good!
| 25 May 2008 | Aisling | Oh yeah, and i forgot to mention, they were named after the two rose bushes in front of their mothers’s cottage. One red rose bush and one white rose bush. | |
| 25 May 2008 | Aisling | You can look it up on Wikipedia. Its got the basic story outline there.
Its a kind of German Story. I think.
The story has nothing to do with the Walt Disney Story, Snow White and the seven dwarfs, except for the names.
There is also a cartoon called Coal Black and de seben dwarfs. its on youtube. its told in rhyme. Some ppl think its racist but others just think its funny. I think its funny. Coal Black is set during WW2 and the dwarfs are all soldiers!

| 3 Jun 2008 | Aimee | Thanks for all the comments, Aisling. I assume you wrote them to help me out. I did look at the Wikipedia one time, because I was reading many fairytales on Wikipedia and other sources, trying to find origin info on Sleeping Beauty, my favorite fairytale. But even at that, I still don’t really like the story of Snow White & Rose Red. It’s ok, I guess, but.
However, I got news for you, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs isn’t only a Disney movie. It was based on the fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, released in 1812. I don’t mean to offend you if you already knew that. I’m just saying--Snow White & The 7 Dwarfs is a story I AM familar with.
| 3 Jun 2008 | Aimee | Oh, I didn’t realize other people made comments saying they were unaware of the story, too. You probably wrote the comments to help them out also. What can I say? Snow White & Rose Red is not common like other fairytales are: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs, etc | |
| 8 Jun 2008 | Anon. | I trink that the charming prince liked snow white in the first look, because he speake her name first when he calls the girls or whem them are play with him. the brothers grimm did tell us that the prince marry snow white, did them? | |
| 11 Jun 2008 | Aimee | Of course the Prince married Snow White. (what does that have to do with anything?) | |
| 13 Jun 2008 | Sarah Coulson | OMG. the Brunette looks exactly like me, hair eyes everything. Runs away afraid. Then runs back, snatches the picture, runs away to a rock, sits down, and stares at the amazingness. | |
| 21 Jul 2008 | Aimee Elizabeth Hudec | I still like this picture. | |
