SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Dwarf

An illustration for a joint project with Elfwood writer Brian Buckley;  ”A Field Guide to Fantasy Creatures”. In this groundbreaking work, the creature is discribed thusly: Dwarf - Dwarves are a race of short miners (not to be confused with minors, who are short for entirely different reasons). In dwarven society, beard length is a symbol of status; the Dwarf Lord's beard, for example, is so massive that scientists recently discovered three entirely new species of marmoset living inside of it, having specially evolved to survive the hairy interior. The beard has since been designated a National Wildlife Reserve, and the Dwarf Lord is prohibited from shaving by federal law.

*First comment dance* Hehehe. And so imaginative. I just love it. If you ever publish the book, please tell me, I'll buy it.

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "I don't know the end result of my collaboration with Brian. A book would be nice, but I think it'll have to be self-published. Thanks for your comment and your support of a possible book project2"

Hahahahaha! I am definitely going to have to check out this Buckley fellow. I love what you two have created here and I haven’t laughed this hard in ages.

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Please check Brian out. He’s got a lot of highly readable stuff. Our book project is slowly trudgeing along. It’s up to me to finish all the pictures and I’ve set a deadline at the end of this year, at the latest."

funny, funny. but why has he a candle on his helmet?! you’re style of drawing is amazing!! - and of course your use of watercolours too....

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks, Lucy! The candle? To light his way in the mines, naturally."
30 Apr 2008:-) Steven The-Red Hebert
ha ha ha! can you make it so the wax from the candle burns his eye brows? lol, nevertheless very good! 18

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "I think dwarven eyebrows have developed through the centuries to be impervious to hot candle wax. Good idea, though..."
