Another of the ”Fearsome Critters” of campfire tales legends, though not as fearsome as many others. The Squonk is probably the world's ugliest animal. So ugly, in fact, that it spends most of its life crying over its cruel fate. Eventually many squonks just dissolve into a puddle of tears. You can read more about this sorry fellow and others like him in my book "Fearsome Critters."

awwww!!!! It’s cute not ugly. Great art, keep it up!

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks! I kind of feel the same."

i actually agree with Anon....he is cute, he looks like a Charpey dog...heehee 1

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "It’s difficult making something totally ugly. It just shows I feel for the little fellow."

Kinda looks like a Vogon from "Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" crossed with a mud puddle. Poor thing. Kinda cute though.

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Could probably be a very appreciated Vogon pet!"

aww, it looks so horribly sad...just makes it more cute than ugly...while still being ugly. (???) I want to read your book! Where can I get it?

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "I didn’t want to make him ugly and unsympathetic, which of course directly defeats the intention of drawing the ugliest animal in the world! There’s a link to where my book can be bought in the text below the Squonk image. It will transport you to Lulu.com, where I’ve self-published it. Thanks for your interest! 1"

It seems to have a very Tennial (Alice and Wonderland Illustrations) vibe. Very well done 2

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks! Well, Tenniel kind of set the template for this play."

What a charming beast, i shall try to find one to add to my menagerie, of naked mole rats, Sphinx cats, leaf nosed bats and deep sea angler fish. I keep all these wonderful pets so when people visit, they think me terribly handsome by comparison.

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Good lord! You ought to do something about your bad looks issues!"

Oh, I am, unlike the poor squonk, delighted with my scary slightly orgeish appearance- as my friend Armondo used to say-"men are supposed to be Ugly, it makes the women they are with look all the more beautiful!" I just surround myself with my ugly beasts so as to be less of a jolt to the eyes of others. Not meaning my beautiful wife, however!(I haven’t eaten breakfast yet and to say otherwise might make me go hungry)

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Well, I guess squonks are good for boosting your own self confidence, then."

Poor little Squonk, that’s my downfall I feel bad for even the most horrid creatures. I love the great ink work in this picture of the Squonk. Very creative, I used to love doing Ink drawing but have gotten into photography. I’ll have to look up your book "fearsome Critters". I and my children are sure to enjoy it. 15

Noooo! He’s adorable. I’ll take him home and make sure he doesn’t melt. Please?

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "He´s all yours!"
