SciFi and Fantasy Art: The last incarnation coveeee

This is the cover illustration and internal chapter sketches for the book “The Last Incarnation” by fantasy and science fiction author Joseph Giunta. You can order the book at Amazon here!

In case you are wondering, the dog is special and that's why it's this big. It's a young warhound, and it will actually grow even bigger :-D

Done from scratch using Photoshop CS2 and a Wacom Intuos 2 tablet.

Interior illustrations, close-ups, and progress steps here!

Summary:
The son of a trapper, raised by elves, befriended by animals, entrusted with magic, Barr was but a boy on a journey that had taken many, many lifetimes. Seeking to avenge his father’s death, he would cross into Lumintor, home to shapelings of all manner and size.

Little did he know, Revyn, the God of Change, had plans of his own, plans set in motion long before Barr was ever born. It was what Revyn had been waiting for, the time when one of the new races bore a child on its final lesson, a soul on the verge of enlightenment.

It was what Markus had awaited as well, enduring centuries of enchanted slumber so that he might one day rule all of Taellus – in Revyn’s name. The Emblems would no longer be hidden, and his revenants would stop at nothing to find them.

It had finally come, the journey’s end…

The Last Incarnation.

It's amazing - so real! I also love the slightly blurry background - makes it look like a snapshot taken in the blink of a second. The atmosphere seems calm yet very serious to me. Very well done.
Gosh, it'll grow even bigger??? 1

I wanted to comment on this yesterday but ran out of time. I love the lighting you have going on Barr, also the clothes are really well done. It's nice how it's rather like a photograph in that the background is blurry while the subject is sharp. Nice work. 2
