| 1 Jan 2000 | The Artist | He's not the Hulk... ;-) But yes, you are right. Actually I focussed on the chest, since that was hard to do, so I neglected his shoulders. Good you said. *Scribbles something on a piece of paper* Thanks for the compliments, James. | |
| 14 Jan 2000 | Donna Bond | I love both versions of this picture but the pervert in me likes this one the best!! | |
| 22 Feb 2000 | Eva C. Creyghton | I think your shadings are just fine, so is your atonomy! You should add shadings on every drawing, I like that! | |
| 10 Mar 2000 | | What a hunk! I love his muscles, the shading is good | |
| 5 Apr 2000 | Kaitlyn R. Miller | Great hands, too!!! How do you DO that? | |
| 5 Apr 2000 | Kaitlyn R. Miller | oooh! nice muscles!! | |
| 16 Jun 2000 | Uid | The placement of the shadings is good, as you say. As for technique, I believe graphite can be smudged out with your finger, or, if that's too messy, with a rolled piece of newspaper or paper towel. That can give you some in-between shades. The other thing that works with most mediums, and graphite is no exception is to go over an area lightly, and then go back over slightly darker areas again, lightly, and then again in layers until the various shades are achieved. This works well with water color, diluted india inks, and with charchol and pencils, or pastels, so I'm sure it would work ok for you. | |
| 18 Aug 2001 | Anonymous | Your shading looks just fine to me, but it all depends on the style YOU want. If you want the shading to look smoother, try using some kleenex or some toilet paper to blend and smooth the graphite. Use your eraser to bring out highlights and to touch up the lighter areas after your done smearing. | |
| 30 Jan 2003 | Meike de Nooy | Really love the hands! Very well done! Did you have a model? About the shading, it's good, applied in the right places, I suggest you smooth it into each other a bit more in some places. Like in his stomach muscles... the llok a bit like... lego?! Sorry no offence, but that's the first word that comes to my mind. Think you are improving if I look at your other pictures though, Heel goed! Maike 'Shyvven' Salet replies: "Yeah, I had a photograph for reference. It's an old picture, I could do this picture without reference now ;-) And better shading, too... but it was a good way to learn stuff." | |
