SciFi and Fantasy Art: Tenth Anniversary Tribute to Elfwood
This picture and (cheesy ^_^) poem (written by me) were done for a Bifrost project celebrating the tenth anniversary of the start of Elfwood. Even though I had been a member of Elfwood less than a year, and did not know much of its history, I wanted to join in. Why? I'll tell you the story of how I joined Elfwood (it's not a very interesting story, so feel free to skip it ^_^)...
About four years ago, I was in my last year of high school, and was unsure of what I wanted to do. I loved art and felt I was good at it, so I submitted a portfolio for admission to an arts college... and was rejected. Needless to say, I was saddened by this.
I ended up going to the University of Toronto (where I still am, in the sciences), and hardly drew during my entire first year... I didn't even have a sketchbook. Later on I slowly picked it up again, but rarely finished anything. Then, during the end of my third year, I joined Elfwood, and I had the drive again. Being in a community with other artists encouraged me to finish pieces, and to practice and improve... and during this short year, I think I have--more than the rest of my undergrad years combined ^_^.
I will probably never become a professional artist, but that's okay, because I always drew for myself, to make myself happy... and Elfwood helped rekindle that love for art.
So on behalf of all artists and writers that have been, and continue to be, inspired by Elfwood, I say thank-you, and may Elfwood have many more anniversaries to come! ^_^
