SciFi and Fantasy Art: Blue Jay Gryphon

This was drawn at Bakuretsu Con 2003. I wanted to do a unique hybrid of a gryphon and thought that it would be cool to combine my favourite bird (a blue jay) with my favourite big cat (black jaguar). Prismacolour pencils and a hint of markers.

Wow, it looks so happy. That combination works really well. I just adore that background.

Its a little confusing to look at, perhaps due to the very 'vivid' coloring used.. but that isnt such a bad thing. Once I managed to get my eyes around it, I liked it, heh 12 When people try something like this.. something more original.. it tends to look a little 'strained' and unnatural, but you've pulled it off nicely. Perhaps you should try your hand at drawing this again, but stood in a slightly more 'mundane' picture, so we can see how it varies from the average griffon? ^_^ good job
