SciFi and Fantasy Art: Teremai

What, pray tell, is a Teremai? The Teremai, or so they have been named by the Elves, are a race of sentient beings that are a cross between plant and humanoid. They live in what is believed to be a hidden kingdom in the Forest of Ayalene, north of the Elven forest of Eahaasae and west of the settled human city-states. Little is known about them, as they are highly xenophobic, and it is rumored that any who enters their hidden kingdom is never allowed to leave, lest they make themselves vulnerable to invasion. Their skin contains chlorophyll and can range between yellow and green in hue, though it begins to brown as they age (not from decay, as some might believe, but as a beginning of the hardening that occurs before they root). This allows them to create their own food when in sunlight and in the presence of water, but, should the need arise, they can metabolize food through consumption, though it is not as nutritious. Their hair and eye colors are often reminiscent of flowers and are found to be almost any color of the rainbow, though bright, vibrant tones are favored. Though their forms, in youth, are humanoid, they have no genetalia and reproduce through pollenization and spore production. In old age, they root and grow into trees, and it is said that they retain their sentience and still can communicate with one another.

The Teremai are a race I've created and is copyright by me. This picture has been in the works since September of '06... and I would have liked to draw the face, but I lost use of my tablet some months ago, which is why I haven't been submitting artwork recently.
