| 12 Nov 2001 | Bruce E. Hinterleitner | This is quite striking piece. I especially like the way you rendering the gold tasseling along the edging of the fan. Mind sharing your technique/s for achieving the delicate metallic look? Jennifer A. Miller replies: "The lace came from a tube; there's a tutorial on how to do the main body of the fan here (not my work): http://ljbraz.www9.50megs.com/lacefans/lacefans.htmlUnfortunately the tutorial I used for the tassel part is offline; I think the site died. Use the rope tube in Paint Shop Pro, and create the rounded part at the top by filling a square entirely with the rope, up and down, then applying a circle deformation. You can then use the deformation tool to shape it into more of an oval.I then used BladePro (www.flamingpear.com) on the dragon, lace, spine of the fan, and tassel on a separate layer. I played with the layer blend modes until I found one I liked. BladePro is commercial but a very good deal, and there are tons of presets for it available free online." | |
