SciFi and Fantasy Art: Mermaid

This is my first real attempt at cg! yay for me! i wanted a realy unique mermaid that might actualy be possible. the stuff that looks like hair(sort of), those are her external gills(like a mudpuppy). her tail has suction cups on the underside as well as on the two trailing tenticles. i colored her so vibrantly because i figured that predators dont like those vibrant colors(they associate them with poison). i know its a bit no-no to use primary colors but i couldnt help myself.
*Done with normal mech pencil and colored in psp and photoshop usinge tons of layers, masks, and all sorts of fun stuff.*
all red areas(except external gills) secrete powerfull pharamones and endorphines that permeate the water wherever they go. they use these chemical traces to find each other in the vast oceans, and if you know what pharamones and endorphines do you'de know what else they use them for. the gills not only are filled with blood(wich gives them their red color), but they also have specialized parts on them that they use to detect sents in the ocean. their sense of smell is better than any other creature of the sea. the yellow areas have specialized oil resivors under the skin, that when ruptured release an oily venom cocktail. wich causes not only a realy bad flavor but a severe burnning sensation. she is also photosynthetic!

funny thing! i created this piece with the sole intent on getting mods choice! hehe, IT WORKED! i just figured if i took a mundane concept and added a totally unique spin to it, combined with some crazy color and a good description, that i could get it. i realy didnt expect to, but it worked just the same. i thank the mods greatly for such a gesture. hehe, i also added this mermaids little gut to stir up a bit of muss. hehe. isnt it great?

Deep sea fishes are dull, mundane colours. I wonder, though about her build, is it for spped or power? What are the evolutionary purposes of her suction cups? The gills are pretty cool, though. go hemoglobin! Does she have a swim bladder? Or does she have lungs (like a lungfish) or neither? I wonder if she could be a siren. That would explain a few things...

The only thing I find odd is the crotch area that is present, even though since she's mostly fish, there wouldn't really be a need to even define that area. I love her tummy! <3 And the colours are fantastic.
