I never really though of any of the Aiel wearing any long shirts or pants, maybe the males, but I always though of the females wearing the skirts of sorts, though I've never actually seen it defined in the books either

Actually, it is defined in the book. Maidens of the spear wear cadin'sor (working clothes) like all other warriors in their society. Other women wear skirts. As for the picture, it's good, but her spear arm looks a little awkward.

yep, fraid joseph up ther is right, maiden's of the spear did wear pants, which is why aviendha has so much trounble with skirts for a while there when sh efirst becomes a wise one...and just think about it, how maneouverable are skirts? they're just gonna get in the way in a fight! teh aiel aren't stupid, they're going to wear what's best for fighting in, and that would look somewhat like what the artist has drawn here, i believe. i think you've got a good representation of the maidens outfit there, i like your interpretation of the wheel of time stuff.

Excellent, truly excellent. I could definitely dig your stuff. I think the buckler might be wrong since they're usually described as rawhide. I also don't tend to think they wear button up shirts. Try going to the middle east to find inspiration for aiel clothing. lots of wraparound and stuff like that, very little button up, mostly stringtied and stuff like that.

the shirt should probobly not be button up, but perhaps pull over with a lace-up throat. also, you were correct when you said that the buckler should be raw hide.

I think they say that the Aiel hold 3 or 4 spears _and_n the buckler in one hand.

Great Pic! I really love it. I'm a big fan of the Aiel, especially the Far Dareis Mai. I'm actually looking for a pick to use for an Aiel character I've just created for an rpg I'm doing. Problem is... I couldn't draw if my life depended on it! *chuckles* Not sure if you'd mind me using this one or not, but if you don't, maybe drop me a line on my e-mail?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so far, you have depicted one of the best Aiel i have ever seen son far. I absolutely LOVE the posture...........relaxed yet with an air of a dangerous grace. Just one question though, is the scarf thing around her neck the black veil?
