SciFi and Fantasy Art: Bladegirl

This is a female fighter. Actually, it“s my first attempt to draw a female character (exept Granny weatherwax and Nanny Ogg). Please let me hear from you and tell me what you think about it. Ok, a brief background story about her; Captured by a bunch of elves during a battle when she was six years old. Then raised in an elven society by an old elven mage. When ten years old the other elven children thought she looked silly with her rounded ears so the boys sharpened her ears with a knife. Terryfied and crying she ran out in the woods and managed to find an old cottage where she hid. In the cottage there lived a retired mercenary who took care of her and trained her with the blade. She is now seventeen years old and goes by the name 'Tanira', after the mercenarys mother. She hates elves and has started to hunt them down like they were animals. I got the inspiration for this pic from Maggie I Wang (gallery 35) and her pic 'Myrael' and thats why I“d like to dedicate it to her.

For a first try, it is pretty good. I just hae to say though, she kinda looks like a cross between Popeye, oliveoil, and Wimpy (not trying to be insulting).

For a first try at drawing women, not bad at all. I think it would help you immensely if you would buy an anatomy book, and spend some time just drawing sketch after sketch of women in various positions. After a while you will have a much better grasp of the female figure. The clothes look pretty good; you just need some more practice. FYI, the key to good drapery is the proper use of shading. Practice makes perfect! Don't worry about all the flack people are giving you. Listen to those who have helpful advice of course, but completely ignore those like the 'genius' above me. They are not worth the effort it takes to read their drivel. You have a lot of potential. If you keep at it, you can go far. Goodbye, and good luck!

you drew a guy with breasts. Its a nice guy with breasts. Being a guy it must hard. It took me time to learn to draw guys. they all looked like girls. you draw what you know in this case atatomy

Well, I learned something-- most girls don't draw guys for a reason. The rule works vice versa. However, if you really do want to work on drawing girls, well, here goes the list...
1) See the head? Eyes, face and hair need work (specially the hair. NO GIRL has hair like that in most drawings, except maybe Non Sequiter.
2) Are the tattoos really necessary?
3) I think you overdid it with you interpretation of the female anatomy- and extremely accented abs aren't usually included on female pics...
4) Change the pants. They are terrible. I know it's what guys wear and that we'd all freak out if a guy wore, say, flares for a day. You really want to see your any girl wearing pants like that? I think not. Same goes for the shoes. The overall idea (sword, sullenness) is actually quite nice though.

:-) Niklas Wistedt replies: "I actually like the pants and would“nt mind if my girlfriend decided to pick up a pair. And whats wrong with the tattoos?"

I have to agree with Star. The tattoos aren't too bad, but it might be better if they were curved. Parachute pants are, most definately, not feminine. I wear huge pants, but they flare out at the ends, as opposed to being rolled up to reveal huge boots. The abs are accentuated a little too much. Her hairline is too high up, And her breasts look.. I'm not sure, kinda lopsided.

1) I do like the look of the tattoos, I don't see anything wrong with them.
2) I agree that the legs are too long. and besides men mostly wear parachute pants, so it is uncommon for a female to do so.
3) Those shoes! They're huge!
4) Her hips need to be a bit larger.
Enough sai. I like the concept except for those few minor discrepansies. I will be posting my own work in about two to three months. College comes first!

Actually, I think it's quite good. Other than some work on proportions and balance, it's excellent. Most people just are stuck on the idea of how they think women should look. 2

Duude, I very much need to get my own gallery here, if only just to put my seriously over muscled and masculine she-troll up. 12 Keep up the excellent work, and don't let anyone tell you what is 'right' or 'wrong' for your Art.

An excellent first try. I don't get what the big deal is with Starprincess and them. So she's not so femminine? So what? I don't think anyone'd be very femminine if they were raised by a retired mercinary. And you'd need strong abs if you were a fighter. The hair is fine. I've seen plenty of girls with hair like that, and I think more girls should be drawn with it. And she can wear whatever he wants her to wear. The Tattoos look great. The female form just takes a bit of practice. That's all.
