SciFi and Fantasy Art: Harpy

Vampire-bunny or ancestor of a flying squirrel, it's a nice shot. I guess your camera was ready to surprise it when it was readying to take off?
Now, about the title, the idea of the harpy does not refer to any animal specifically, but it is expected to be female.

Don't take this the wrong way but your harpy doesn't look like a harpy at all. As a matter of fact it looks a lot like the descriptions of the mexican myth of the Chupracabra(goat sucker).

Ahem, I am the "designer" of this particular creature (it's an illustration the esteemed mr Lindström did for a RPG campaign of mine), and yes, mythical harpies are a combination of a raptor and a female, thankyou. However, in this particular background, combination of mammal+bird aint possible. They do have legends exactly the same as the Earthly one - but that's because people saw the bat-people and reported them as "half birds, half men...". That's the way legends are born. Since the game is about exploration, uncovering the truth is an important thing. Just wanted to make things clear: mr Lindström is certainly aware of the anatomy of the mythical harpy, but this is is a slightly different creature. Just as the average D&D elf has very little to do with Santa's helpers or folklore elves...

To Erik Sieurin; Although I've never played Dungeons and Dragons, as a sci-fi writer I'm well versed in many classic Greek myths. My comment was in reference to that since Mr. Lindstrom's above caption made no mention that this picture was specifically designed for you. As an art critic my comments are strictly based upon what I'm looking at in relation to my own knowledge and experience. If the artist mentioned that you were the designer of the picture I would have taken that into account before making my comment.

Did you notice that the back shadow looks a lot like the stareotypical witch? Well I see it.
