SciFi and Fantasy Art: Storm Cat

Dragons and various other mythical animals have always been associated with bringing rain -- so why not a giant blue tiger? Next time you hear thunder, think of the tiger's giant roar and imagine its great blue and silver form leaping amid the clouds and dissolving into the air. The heavy density of the clouds, the lashing of the tiger's tongue and the swirling of its tail, are intended to make you feel the beginnings of the storm. The sources for this was a Chinese tiger design from an old vase... it quickly turned into something else. Thee border is celtic design combined with a Renaissance corner ornament. I got this idea from the Carl Sandberg pome that contains the line... 'the fog came in on little cat's feet. In this version, the cat's paws are a tad bigger. Comments welcome.

I can't say anything. I'm speechless. And that takes something!

Guri,

Thanks for the comments. I love Fairy Tale images and cats. Of all the BIG cats, Tigers are my favorites.

Well done, like the colors and details.

This pic is soo beautyful. It reminds me of ancient wall- reliefs in Babylon, and the border make this 3d effect very believeable.

OKay, I think the tiger is a bit odd. It is shaped pretty weird, but I love the border. Celts are very artistic. Anyway, that is the only critique I would have on this painting, except for maybe the colours. The blue and the white are good, but I to my perspective, there is too much blue and too much white.

To the most recent comment about the tiger being oddly shaped: that was INTENTIONAL. The design is from a Chinese vase and I wanted to catch their ideal of a tiger rather than all the other REAL tigers that have been done. This is an elemental cat, not a real one. As for the blue and white: a matter of taste. This is a sky elemental -- the only colors would be those found in the sky (and while the rainbow is there) -- tis is on a clear day, before the STORM CAT does his work. Thanks!

Whoa o_O awesome!

Hmm yeah, I did think this looked like something either Chinese or European-Middle-Ages (re: above comments). They always took liberties with animal anatomy. I like it though.
