| 26 Feb 2008 | John R Farley Jr | Wow, nice shape of the crow against the lighted background. Love all the details on the forest floor too.
Crows have also been known to imitate sounds, such as a phone ringing. :c) Norma Peters replies: "Thank you so much, John, I’m glad you like it. This picture was a special project for me, because I love corvids.
My daughter and I live in a sort of rural setting, and a large community of crows live in the woods across the field beside our house. We’ve been observing them very closely for years, and the stories I can tell!
A couple of years ago, I was packing some things in the trunk of the car, and behind me I heard a nasal voice say: "Hello." (It actually sounded more like "Hewwo." I turned around and there was nobody there. That happened two more times, and finally I looked up into the branches of a big chestnut tree that stands beside the driveway. There was a crow sitting there, looking down at me.
I realized that so often I had said "Hello" to individual crows when I would take food to them, and apparently one of them realized that it was a human greeting. (Crows are extremely intelligent, although not quite as much as ravens) I often hear that crow across the field, sayin "Hewwo, hewwo, hewwo!" and then "kek kek kek kek kek!" almost like a human laugh, as if it’s pleased with itself."
| 26 Feb 2008 | John R Farley Jr | That sounds great! Talking crows. Check out Kimberly Taylor’s art and stories at:

She designs everything around crows and ravens and her art is very interesting.
When I was younger I wanted a mynah bird since they seemed to be able to mimic the sound of just about anything. Norma Peters replies: "Thank you for the link. I will certainly check out her work. I’ve always wanted a mynah bird, too. Maybe someday I will get the chance. I was in a pet shop once that had a mynah bird who was the shop mascot, and across from the shop was a video arcade. The mynah would mimic all the noises he heard from the arcade - explosions, gunfire, etc. It was really something to hear. "
| 26 Feb 2008 | Mandy Elliott | As always Norma, great work. I’m also a fan of this contrast of light and dark as the crow heads for the light. I’ve always wanted to walk through a tunnel like this one, but as you can imagine, on coastal Florida there isn’t many. Keep up, glad to see you back in the swing. Norma Peters replies: "Thanks for the visit, Mandy. Forest tunnels like this one are pretty common in this area. I spend most of my summers wandering around the woods. " | |
| 28 Feb 2008 | Asja Ilonka Keeman | It gives me a very mystic feeling, i don’t know what to say. I’m so focus on the crow and the "tunnel" the light and dark concept is very good. Keep it up Norma Peters replies: "Many thanks. I’m happy that you like the picture. " | |
