SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Paladin and the Paladine Shrine

This is a drawing of the man himself... Richard of Avalon, during his days as a Paladin. Here he kneels before the altar of the Paladine Shrine, leaning on his Greatsword 'Moongate', and dressed in chainmail, covered with a Grail Knight's Tabbard. He also wears a Greathelm. Unfortunately, as this was drawn a few years ago, and my knowledge of drawing was sparse, it suffers from proportional problems. The supposedly 6'2 Richard of Avalon seems more Halfling-ish here, but... well... *shrugs* The main reason I put this here is for you to get an idea of how my work is progressing. This could be taken as 'the beginning'. Again, unfortunately this was on lined paper, but in my humble opinion, its not too bad...

Weeeee are the Knights who say... NI!!! *laughs*. Yes, I think you're right about that. Right, this is what I'll do... as this was supposed to be a first draft, I think that some time soon I will re-draw this picture, and spend some serious time over it, ensuring that the lighting is correct. Thats an interesting thought, having the colours of the glass on the Knight... *thinks* Well, thanks *smiles* *runs off to find a sketchbook*

The thing that captured my attention here is the stained glass window and the way the light is pouring through it. My comment here is that the light does not seem to fall on the knight. Don't be afraid to put a lot of yellow on your subject as well... any part of his body that is towards the light would have a glow to it caused by the effect of the stained glass window. In this case you could also add colours from the window to the knight as lighting effects. When I first saw this picture my first thought is "its the black knight from Monty Pythons The Holy Grail movie" he has the right helm and with the grail in the window I couldn't help but think of that.

*chuckles* Yeah, the helmet is a lil can-like, but hey *shrugs* it was supposed to be a first draft... but... then again... most of my pics are first drafts... and the finished versions were never done *chuckles*. Thanks though *smiles*

*first comment dance* i like the shadow to the side. it keeps the focus on the guy, and his intense thinking. i must ask, does he have a head? or just a big can on his shoulders? *haha. me is being really silly tonight. i'm hyper!* *giggles*
