SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Fellowship of the Ring'That morning they lit a fire in a deep hollow shrouded by great bushes of holly, and their supper-breakfast was merrier than it had been since they set out. They did not hurry to bed afterwards, for they expected to have all the night to sleep in, and they did not mean to go on again until the evening of the next day. Only Aragorn was silent and restless. After a while he left the Company and wandered on to the ridge; there he stood in the shadow of a tree, looking out southwards and westwards, with his head posed as if he was listening. Then he returned to the brink of the dell, and looked down at the others laughing and talking.' | 4 Feb 2004 | Susan Ann Munro | I think this is interesting - I can feel the cosy atmosphere, as if I was there. The thing I noticed almost straightaway was that Boromir seemed rather distracted, like he wasn't wholey listening to Gandalf. I followed his gaze and realised it was actually between Gandalf and Frodo, so perhaps he is contemplating the Ring at this time? Whatever the reason, this picture is a gem. Reminds me of medieval art, with the warmth in the colours and composition. Nice to see you didnt forget Ol' Bill! Thank you very much indeed. You know, I'm amazed at the things people can pick up from viewing my work! I don't think I absolutely consciously purposed to portray Boromir's 'temptation', but it does make sense to the appearance and placement of the characters. It may have been in mind, somewhere hidden deep. | |
| 7 Apr 2004 | Nynaeve Mashiara | Oh sorry, i meant Aragorn in the backgrond Indeed. No worries. | |
| 7 Apr 2004 | Nynaeve Mashiara | Yea!! A dark haired Legolas!! Well, at least as I see him in the book. That is Legolas, right? And i am guessing that Boromir is in the background?? I love your interpretations of Tolkien's work, it gives great insight to how his world comes alive and presents a different view that I would have never pictured in my mind. Thank you!And thank you for the comment. It is indeed a dark-haired Legolas that you see . | |
| 27 Apr 2004 | David | I know you're a massive fan of Professor Tolkien's work so I wonder could you classify, is Legolas Greenleaf actually fair haired? People usually assume so because he's a Wood Elf, but is that just an assumption? In short, yes, this is an assumption. In fact, Wood elves are much more likely to be dark-haired than blonde. As for Legolas, it's not explicitely stated either way, but I simply classify his hair-colour based on the majority of his people, as well as how I imagined him when I read the book of course. | |

| 11 Oct 2005 | Erin E. Johnston | LEGOLAS!!! *tackles him* Legolas: Ai!! Erin! Enough already! Me: Well excuse ME!! Legolas: *dusting himself off* This is a very well done picture. Me: And you look like yourself! Yay! I love it! Legolas: You are salivating on me. Me: sorry. Thumbs up on the pic! VERY Tolkienesque. I'm glad you like it, thanks a lot for your comment. | |
| 22 Dec 2005 | Alari | I love your interpretation of Legolas. I never pictured him the blonde little girly-man that the movies made him. This Legolas is certainly gorgeous, but he hasn't forgotten that he is indeed MALE! Wonderful A few too many interpretations remind me of your observations! I'm glad you like this one though... | |
| 22 Jul 2007 | Aly Elliab | Umm, the only critic I have, is that Gimli should be a little taller than a hobbit, hobbits being smaller. | |
| 29 Jan 2008 | Leah A Cote | Is it just me or does the man sitting next to Gandalf look like Nicholas Cage? Seriously, well done. I really enjoyed this picture, the detail is really great! | |
