SciFi and Fantasy Art: Gandalf the WhiteI have mixed feelings about this particular piece of work. It was, more than anything else, an excuse for me to indulge in some twisted and overgrown forestry. It's probably Gandalf roaming around Fangorn Forest before he meets up again with part of the Fellowship... Oh, and that's a Huorn beside Gandalf, not Treebeard, or an any other Ent. | 20 Dec 2003 | Pixiedust107 | I love this picture so much, i've been drawing gandalf myself, as well as other characters, and i am glad i find yet another who sees them as the book describes them wonderful!Yes, it's always great to share the same imagination with someone else. Thanks a lot.

| 28 Apr 2004 | Nick M. | Fabulous piece of work!!!! I found this picture when I was google looking for pictures of Gandalf. Your artwork has things in the book, not the movie. I do know what a Huorn is. It's in the book The Two Towers. Anyway, the drawing was essential to look at. I was dumbfounded! When's your next drawing going on the Internet? Great piece of work. Keep it up!!Thanks a lot. I have a few pieces in the ticket queue as I type this. | |
| 22 Oct 2004 | David Crowe | It's very good! Is that treebeard beside Gandalf? Also if he is Gandalf the White then why is his staff grey? DavidIt's actually a Huorn beside Gandalf, not Treebeard. And as for his staff, the answer is simple. In the book, he still handled his traditional oak staff -- I think it's mentioned in 'The King of the Golden-hall' chapter. I never liked the 'IKEA-staff' used in the movie . | |
| 12 Jun 2005 | Satya | Hmm... I like this picture somehow for what it doesn't show. Maybe it's just me, but I like how Gandlaf looks like just an ordinary old man. And yet, by some sense other than sight (perhaps more complete than sight) the picture gives me the feeling that, though hidden, he does indeed possess great power. Your trees are fab! So it's no wonder that the Huorn has attracted much attention and praise. The forest of Fangorn looks... like the Huorn itself, not inherently evil, merely very grumpy and angry, thus giving the outward impression of malice. I have a request actually. If you haven't allready done one, could you please do a piece on when Gandlaf the White first reveals himself to the Three Hunters? If you have already done it, could you tell me where to find it? Thanks a bunch! Excellent job on the whole!I think the beauty of watercolour as a medium is that it's perfect for suggesting rather than dictating how a piece should look, and I think that has a lot to do with what you say about this painting -- that you like it for what it 'doesn't show', if you know what I mean. I'm really glad you like my work, and thank you for the comment. I haven't actually painted the scene that you suggest, though I've always liked it. I'll make you a deal, if you offer me a few more brilliant comments such as the ones that you've already imparted upon me, I'll paint the scene -- you have my word. What do you say? | |
| 13 Jun 2005 | Satya | Are you kidding me? Of course it's a deal! Its a pleasure to view your works... and I'm glad if what I say helps you in some small way. Heehee... when looking at this picture again, I noticed how the Huorn seems to have a sort of "What are you staring at?" look to him. I find it amusing, in a slightly ironic way. Anyway, looking forward to your future pics!I've just started the painting, so I'll let you know once it's done. | |
| 28 Nov 2005 | Jasmin Islam | I particularly love the Huorn in this picture. Your attention to detail in trees and woods is astounding.Probably because I enjoy drawing or painting woodland so much. Thanks a lot. | |
| 28 Nov 2007 | Aeschylus | Your artwork IS awesome. Your vision of Tolkien's works is exquisite. | |
| 19 Mar 2008 | Anaïs | I like your style very much. It’s very unusual and special, as it has a sort of medieval touch. And your vision of Tolkien’s work is interesting, because it is quite different from the movies. I don’t know if you already tried to do "real" paintings, with a subject of your own, but if not you should really try!
I hope I didn’t make mistakes (because I’m french), and above all that you will continue to draw and to dream!
