SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Tower Hall of Denethor

'Pippin looked into a great hall. It was lit by deep windows in the wide aisles at either side, beyond the rows of tall pillars that upheld the roof. Monoliths of black marble, they rose to great capitals carved in many strange figures of beasts and leaves; and far above in shadow the wide vaulting gleamed with dull gold, inset with flowing traceries of many colours. No hangings nor storied webs, nor any things of woven stuff or of wood, were to be seen in that long sullen hall...

At the far end upon a dais of many steps was set a high throne under a canopy of marble shaped like a crowned helm; behind it was carved upon the wall and set with gems an image of a tree in flower. But the throne was empty. At the foot of the dais, upon the lowest step which was broad and deep, there was a stone chair, black and unadorned, and on it sat an old man gazing at his lap. In his hand was a white rod with a golden knob. He did not look up.'

i don't know, if it's just me, but I remembered the tree being white, not with bright-cloured red/blue/gree/xyz fruits. 2 And the tree isn't like I imagined, it's hape is a bit... odd...

bu still, an imressing pic, like all of your pics, so cheers 2)If you read the excerpt that I provide, you'll notice it says that behind the throne 'was carved upon the wall and set with gems an image of a tree in flower...'. No mention is mentioned of it being white, but since the walls are white, the tree is also in my depiction. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

I love how the perspective works in this one. Even though a couple of things are a bit 'off' from the 'academic' point of view, you've done a great job depicting the majesty of this ancient hall. Thanks, and I agree. At the same time I'm glad that I've managed to convey the effect even if not strictly correct, perspective wise.

This is so cool . . . I love it. It's so different, so seperate from anything in the movie . . I love the movies, but this is such a unique representation of the hall . . . I really like the tree. It's my favorite part. great jobThank you very much indeed. I think you'll find that I try to keep things as separate from the movies as possible 12.
