SciFi and Fantasy Art: Artemis Fletching Arrows

This is my end of a trade with DeviantArt buddy Kaze-kuroki.

This fine and scaley fellow is called Artemis. He's based on Kaze-Kuroki's original designs and is used with permission.

The little sunbird has brought Artemis a phoenix feather with which to fletch his arrows, for these arrows are of a particular kind - speedy in flight and deadliest of all to the creatures of darkness which Artemis hunts. The little sunbird has a message for Artemis, too, straight from the Song of the Phoenix - it whispers the sweet music in his ear...

For some reason, any mention of phoenixes seems to automatically generate some kind of story in my head. More power, therefore, to Artemis and his bright friend.

I did this with ink, watercolor and a great deal of colored pencil. Yes, I colored each of those damned scales individually. It was a monumental pain in the butt and it took most of eight hours today. But I LOOOOOVE the effect, so it was worth the hassle.
